Grading Key

*****=outstanding; ****=excellent; ***=good; **=fair; *=poor.

Type of Book: This singly edited book offers some practical information on how to diagnose and treat infertility, either with or without the use of assisted reproduction. The information is primarily derived from the author's own experience.

Scope of Book: The purpose of the book is to provide information on practical aspects of managing infertility and assisted reproduction.

Strengths: The chapters dealing with sperm retrieval and male infertility in general are the strongest in the book.

Deficiencies: Overly simplistic in some chapters, this text overlooks some new information (for example, it fails to mention the Sperm Chromatin Structure Assay for the evaluation of the infertile male, the use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonists in in vitro fertilization protocols, and the recombinant human chorionic gonadotropin). The book contains outdated information concerning partial zona dissection and subzonal insemination.

Recommended Readership: This text is directed to an audience requiring simple concepts of infertility and some basic concepts on assisted reproductive techniques. Perhaps nursing students, medical students, and residents could find that some chapters meet their requirements.

Overall Grading: **
